Who has experienced this?

When I tried to explain my pain,
You told me I was “overly emotional” and “abnormal.”
When I tried to explain and help you understand how I felt,
You called me “dramatic.”

When I reacted to your anger and volatility,
You said I made you do it with “my nervous energy.”
When I wanted you to know how you affected me,
You said you didn’t want to talk about it.

When I felt embarrassed by your temper in public and in front of my children,
You told me that I was the problem.
When I told you that you were being abusive,
You said, “Oh, here we go. There it is.”

I moved to start a new relationship with someone who had been a friend for 40 years. It turned out the friendship was a mask and I’m leaving after over a year and a half of abuse. And, it hurts like hell.
